EXECRATION vs TALON ESPORTS Dota 2 BETTING & MATCH DETAIL |
|
---|---|
Best Odds: | Execration $3.00 at GG Bet | Talon $1.36 at GG Bet |
When: | January 9, 2023 | 13:00 SGT |
Watch Live: | Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/pgl_dota2) |
Talon Esports had a fantastic run through the 2022 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC), finishing DPC SEA Tour 3 Division I in second place, despite spending the first two tours in the lower division. But Talon failed to achieve much internationally, placing 13th-14th at PGL Arlington Major 2022, ninth-10th at ESL One Malaysia, and 17th-18th at The International 2022.
Talon have since signed Anucha “Jabz” Jirawong, Chan “Oli” Chon Kien and head coach Lee “SunBhie” Jeong-jae, who has been coaching some of the best Dota 2 teams in the world over the last half a decade.
Execration did incredibly well in the lower division last season, and with just one roster change (-Ralph “RR” Pe?ano, + Juan “BDz” Manalo), they should enjoy a solid start to the new season. But beating Talon might be too much to ask.
Still, Execration had a solid showing against Talon last season and combining that with early-season rust makes Execration an appealing pick on the map handicap market.
FNATIC vs GEEK FAM Dota 2 BETTING & MATCH DETAIL |
|
---|---|
Best Odds: | Fnatic $1.66 at GG Bet | Geek Fam $2.10 at GG Bet |
When: | January 9, 2023 | 16:00 SGT |
Watch Live: | Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/pgl_dota2) |
Fnatic are one of the few teams entering the 2023 season without a coach following the departure of Lee “SunBhie” Jeong-jae to Talon Esports. Moreover, Fnatic also parted ways with Marc “Raven” Fausto and Anucha “Jabz” Jirawong, replacing them with Kim “Gabbi” Santos and Damien “kpii” Chok. Those are good additions, but they don’t make Fnatic any stronger than they were last season.
Geek Fam put together a very interesting squad, but interesting doesn’t necessarily mean good. Like Fnatic, Geek Fam don’t have a coach yet, and the team consists mostly of tier-two players. While Geek Fam have the potential to impress, we’re not too excited about them.
Fnatic look slightly weaker than in 2022, however, they’re going against a weaker roster with questionable synergy. It could be a close game, but $1.66 (with esports betting sites) on Fnatic is a fair price.
?
Geek Fam will look to make it three wins in a row when they face T1 on the third matchday at ESL One Thailand 2020 Asia.
After winning their opening two fixtures against Question Mark (2-1) and Aster.Aries (2-0), another victory for Geek Fam on Thursday would guarantee them a spot in the playoffs and a shot at US $50,000 in tournament winnings.
The bout with Question Mark (formerly The BOX) was relatively close, as the underdogs managed to force a three-map series with an impressive performance in game two. Nevertheless, it would be fair to say that Carlo “KuKu” Palad never looked like they could lose.
Surprisingly enough, Geek Fam’s fixture with Aster.Aries was much more one-sided. While KuKu and co. came close to dropping the ball on the second map, they clawed their way to a 2-0 win thanks to a phenomenal performance from mid laner Karl “Karl” Jayme.
Geek Fam’s solid start at ESL One Thailand 2020 Asia continues a trend of good performances this year. Out of the 10 tournaments they have attended in 2020, Geek Fam won three, reached the grand finals in two, and settled for a bronze medal in three. Their worst result of the year came in April when they finished fourth at the ESL One Los Angeles 2020 Online Southeast Asia.

Shortly after T1 put together their Dota2 team in March 2019, they made it to the final round of DreamLeague Season 13 SEA Open Qualifier – quite an achievement for such a new squad. They also reached a top-four placements in the ESL One Los Angeles 2020 Southeast Asia Open Qualifier and the first two iterations of ESL SEA Championship 2020 qualifiers.
After finishing seventh-eighth in Thailand Celestial Cup S2, BTS Pro Series Southeast Asia, Asia Spring Invitational and Cyber.bet Cup Spring Series SEA from March through May, T1 went all the way at the Hephaestus Cup to lift their first Dota 2 esports trophy. They needed only a week to add more silverware when they produced a near-perfect run en route to the SEA Dota Invitational 2020 title.
Since then, T1 have run seventh-eighth at BTS Pro Series Season 2 and fourth in the ONE Esports Dota 2 SEA League. Both are decent results for such a new roster, as those tournaments featured some of the best SEA Dota2 teams.
T1 split their first two games at ESL One Thailand, losing to Neon Esports (1-2) and bouncing back against Question Mark (2-0) this Tuesday. The 1-1 record keeps them in the race for the playoffs, but a loss here would put them in an unenviable position with games against Sparking Arrow Gaming and Aster.Aries still to play.
Since T1 formed their Dota2 roster, they have clashed with Geek Fam five times and failed to win a match. On a more positive note, they at least managed a 1-1 stalemate in the BTS Pro Series in June and forced a three-map series in the ONE Esports SEA League last month.
Since their last meeting, T1 let go of their captain, Lee “Forev” Sang-don, and replaced him with the experienced Samson Solomon Enojosa “Sam_H” Hidalgo. Geek Fam recently parted ways with Marc Polo Luis “Raven” Fausto, who left for Fnatic, and temporarily replaced him with Evil Geniuses mid laner Abed Azel “Abed” L. Yusop.
With those changes, T1 look to be slightly stronger than before and should put up a solid fight. Geek Fam are still the favourites, but they tend to rely too much on Abed. A 2-1 win for GF seems like the most likely outcome, so T1 at the +1.5 line looks a solid bet.
The ONE Esports Dota 2 SEA League is set to return with Week 4 matches this Thursday, when we will see Geek Fam clash with T1 for the fourth time this year.
Geek Fam made some serious noise with their title-winning run at BTS Pro Series Season 2: Southeast Asia last month. Even though the competition featured some of the top Dota 2 esports teams in the region, Carlo “KuKu” Palad and his crew defeated Fnatic (2-1) and BOOM Esports twice (2-1 and 3-0) in the playoffs to claim the top prize.
Geek Fam also appeared at the Asia Summer Championship, where they failed to replicate their form in the BTS Pro Series. After finishing the group stage in fourth and making it through the first two rounds of the lower bracket playoffs, they lost to eventual finalists NEW Esports (0-2) in the third round and had to settle for fourth place.
Since then, Geek Fam have played only two games in the ONE Esports SEA Dota 2 League, drawing with Reality Rift last Friday and claiming a revenge win against NEW on Saturday. Before those fixtures they played out a stalemate with Neon Esports and lost to BOOM, which sits them at eighth place with 2-2-1 record.

T1 enter this match with a solid 3-1-3 record next to their name. They defeated Execration, BOOM and Reality Rift, drew with Adroit, and lost to NEW, Fnatic and Neon.
T1 also participated at BTS Pro Series Season 2: Southeast Asia, but they failed to see much success. After finishing the group stage 3-3-3, they lost to TNC Predator (0-2) in the opening round of lower bracket playoffs to finish in seventh-eighth place. Since then, T1 have not participated in any other tournament besides the ONE Esports Dota 2 SEA League.
Neither team have made any roster changes in the last month. T1’s new Dota2 squad has stood firm since late May, when they acquired Galvin “Meracle” Kang Jian Wen and Wilson “Poloson” Koh Chin Wei as replacements for Dominik “Black^” Reitmeier and Yixaun “xuan” Guo. Geek Fam, on the other end, made their last roster change in January, when they signed Matthew “Whitemon” Filemon.
These teams have met three times in their history. Their first clash happened in April at BTS Pro Series Season 1, where Geek Fam edged out a 2-1 win. They repeated that feat a month later during the Cyber.bet Cup: Spring Series, where KuKu and his crew won 2-0.
Their most recent bout happened just under a month ago at BTS Pro Series Season 2. T1 took the series lead with a phenomenal comeback but failed to seal the deal, as they suffered a heavy defeat on the second map. The bout ended in a stalemate, which suggests T1 could potentially force another draw here.
Both team are 4-2-4 in their last 10 fixtures, but it would be fair to say T1 have shown a lot more in the last couple of weeks. They defeated BOOM Esports and Reality Rift, and drew with both TNC and Adroit, whereas Geek Fam only managed to take down NEW Esports and two semi-amateur teams in Motivade.Trust Gaming and Team Strawberry.
Even though Geek Fam have historically dominated this matchup, the high odds offered on T1 make no sense. Lee “Forev” Sang-don and co. have shown signs of improvement lately and should have what it takes to win at least one map. An outright bet on T1 is also worth considering at great odds.
While Geek Fam entered the tournament as one of the stronger teams in the field, they were far from favourites to lift the trophy. The road to the top was tough with Fnatic, Neon Esports, BOOM Esports and Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) leaders TNC Predator all in attendance, but Carlo “KuKu” Palad and his crew delivered when it mattered and pocketed US $21,000 in tournament winnings.
In the group stage, Geek Fam defeated Cignal Ultra (2-0), Team Adroit (2-0), Execration (2-0) and Neon Esports (2-0), drew with BOOM Esports (1-1), Reality Rift (1-1), TNC Predator (1-1), T1 (1-1), and lost to Fnatic (0-2). That 4-4-1 record was enough to book a spot in the upper bracket of the playoffs, where KuKu and co. switched into a higher gear and produced a remarkable run to the grand finals.
In the opening round of the playoffs, Geek Fam faced Fnatic, who defeated them just two days prior, but that did not stop GF from entering the match with confidence. After losing the opening map, Geek Fam overpowered the SEA juggernauts with a 2-1 reverse sweep to punch a ticket for the upper bracket finals. There, they faced the surging BOOM Esports, who took the first map but went down 26-16 and 25-4 on the next two.
BOOM then disposed of Fnatic (2-0) in the lower bracket to set up a rematch with Geek Fam in the best-of-five (Bo5) grand final series. Alfi “Khezcute” Nelphyana and his men entered the clash as favourites but proved no match for Geek Fam, who showed no struggle en route to a clean sweep win.

BOOM Esports entered the first game of the finals with a very mobile and roam-heavy draft that allowed them to keep pace with Geek Fam for the first 30 minutes, at which point GF took the reins and charged towards the first win of the series.
Khezcute and co. took an early lead in the second game, but Marc Polo Luis Raven Faustos Morphling tore them apart once he got his hands on Ethereal Blade. Raven ended the game with a perfect 15/0/5 score and showed once more why he is the team’s main carry.
After suffering two crushing defeats, BOOM Esports’ spirit was broken, as clearly seen in their approach to the third and final game of the series. Although they were somewhat competitive for the first 15 minutes, KuKu and his team proved to be too much to handle as Raven on Troll Warlord put on another standout display to finish with a 12/1/8 record.
The BTS Pro Series S2: SEA title is just the latest in a series of successes for Geek Fam this year. Other noteworthy tournament placements include a runner-up finish at ESL SEA Championship 2020, third-place finishes at WePlay! Bukovel Minor 2020, BTS Pro Series S1 and ESL One Birmingham 2020 – Online: Southeast Asia, as well as a gold medal from Cyber.bet Cup: Spring Series – SEA.
Geek Fam are currently competing at the Asia Summer Championship, while theyre scheduled to take their first steps at the ONE Esports Dota2 SEA League next Saturday when they face Neon Esports in the second week of the competition.
]]>The opening round of the ESL One Birmingham 2020 Southeast Asia playoffs will see Geek Fam lock horns with Team Adroit in a rematch of their meeting in the group stage last Sunday.
Having won that clash 2-0, Geek Fam will enter this match with high confidence. Although Adroit looked to be in a better spot for a short period of time on the first map, the final scores show the real picture. Geek Fam won the opening game with a 44-22 kill differential and 18.6k net worth advantage, to which they added 31-11 kill and 15.5k gold leads on the second map.
Besides their dominant win over Adroit, Geek Fam also took down the struggling TNC Predator (2-0) and Reality Rift (2-0) in the group stage. It wasn’t all roses, however, as they lost to BOOM Esports (1-2) and Fnatic (0-2) to take a 3-2 record into the playoffs.
Geek Fam entered ESL One Birmingham straight after winning Cyber.bet Cup: Spring Series – SEA, where they secured a perfect 6-0 record and lost only one map out of 14 played. While a remarkable achievement on paper, Carlo “KuKu” Palad and co. did not face any notable opponents besides Cignal Ultra, who were the only team to force GF into a three-map series.

Team Adroit were very disappointing towards the end of the group stage at ESL One Birmingham. They started the tournament with wins over Fnatic (2-1), TNC (2-0) and Reality Rift (2-0), but Marvin “Boombacs” Rushton and co. fell flat against Geek Fam (0-2) and BOOM Esports (1-2) on the final two days. Their recent two results fail to inspire much confidence, but we don’t find it fair to criticise Adroit on two results alone.
Although this team has the tendency to occasionally drop the ball (which is somewhat justifiable in online fixtures), Adroit have shown before they are not a bad team. That is especially the case against Geek Fam, who they have already defeated three times this year.
Furthermore, Adroit defeated Fnatic a week ago and stole a map off the SEA titans in BTS Pro Series: Southeast Asia a month ago, so it’s fair to say Boombacs and his team can be potent if given a chance.
Geek Fam enter this match as massive favourites on the back of their win in this matchup a few days ago. That overrates them a bit, and it’s hard to understand how are Team Adroit priced as high as $2.62 to win.
While Geek Fam stomped Adroit on Sunday, we must also consider that these teams have met five times since the start of the year. Three of those contests ended in favour of Adroit, who hold a 8-6 aggregate map score against GF in 2020.
Because Adroit have lost some of the momentum they had at the start of the tournament, it’s hard to back them in outright. But online fixtures are often unpredictable and Adroit match up nicely with Geek Fam, so we are confident the Filipinos can win at least one map and force the series to three.
