Just one month after GoNext Esports’ shock victory at the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS): 2024 Championship in Japan, the series organisers revealed New Orleans as the host city of the next major LAN event, the ALGS 2025 Open.
The ALGS 2025 Open was confirmed to take place at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Los Angeles, from May 1 to 4, 2025.
It will be the first major LAN event of ALGS Year 5 and the first open-format tournament ALGS ever hosted.
It will feature 160 Apex Legends teams vying for their share of the $1,000,000 prize pool.

The list of participating teams includes the recently crowned ALGS champions, GoNext Esports, and other big names from the scene – ALGS 2024 Championship runners-up Alliance, Team Falcons, 100 Thieves, Fnatic, Virtus.pro, Luminosity Gaming, ENVY, Shopify Rebellion, and more.
The tournament organisers have confirmed 86 participants.
That includes 21 from the Americas and Asia-Pacific (APAC) South and 22 from EMEA and APAC North.
The remaining spots will be filled in by squads that make it through regional qualifiers, expanding the list of participants by 120.
The complete list of ALGS Open teams will not be available until the conclusion of the Preseason Qualifiers, scheduled to take place from March 15-17.
Besides expanding the upcoming LAN event, ALGS Year 5 will introduce some gameplay changes, including adding Broken Moon to the map pool.
Moreover, ALGS will introduce Legend Bans in the upcoming season, with the ALGS 2025 Open being the first official LAN tournament to use new rules.
With the new rule, all legends will be available at the start; however, the legend that is picked by the most teams will be removed from the pool after each match for the remainder of the series.
If an entire class of legends (Skirmisher, Assult, Recon, Controller, or Support) is set to be removed during the series, the legend that is banned the longest will return to the pool.
Despite the increase in the number of participating teams, the ALGS 2025 Open will have half of the prize pool offered by the ALGS 2024 Championship.
Only the top 40 teams get a share of the pool.
The top five teams will also receive invites to the ALGS 2025 Midseason Playoffs which will feature 40 teams and a US$1,000,000 prize pool.
Following the conclusion of the ALGS 2025 Open, the focus will move to the 2025 Esports World Cup, scheduled to kick off on July 1, 2025.
