Four teams have been eliminated, and 16 remain on the road to glory.
Even in the play-in stage, one major region has already fallen short of expectations.
100 Thieves, from North America, suffered a disappointing defeat to PSG Talon in the lower bracket final, marking an early exit from LoL Worlds 2024.
With the Swiss Stage now set, exciting first-round matchups are on the horizon.

T1 will start their title defence against Top Esports, while European fans have reason for cautious optimism: G2 Esports faces paiN Gaming, and Fnatic goes head-to-head with Dplus KIA.
On the other hand, MAD Lions fans may feel a pang of anxiety as their team has drawn LPL Summer champions, Bilibili Gaming, in the first round.
In an interview, Supa from MAD Lions expressed a desire to face a North American team for revenge, but it seems that match will have to wait.
GAM Esports, fresh off a strong play-in stage performance, will now face FlyQuest, while PSG Talon must take on the LCK Summer winners, Hanwha Life Esports.
Meanwhile, Team Liquid is set to face LNG Esports, and Weibo Gaming is lined up against Gen.G, the dominant second seed from the LCK.
This years World Championship will take place across Berlin, Paris, and London, with the Swiss Stage held in two parts: October 3-7 and October 10-13.
The opening day will feature best-of-one round one matchups, followed by 1-0 and 0-1 matchups on October 4.
From then on, the decisive best-of-three matches will determine who moves on to the knockout stage and who goes home.
The play-in stage has already concluded, with eight teams competing for four qualification spots.
These four teams will now join the twelve already qualified teams in the Swiss Stage, where many consider the real Worlds to begin.
The 16 teams are divided into four pools, with Pool 1 teams facing Pool 4, and Pool 2 taking on Pool 3.
Importantly, no teams will face opponents from their own region in the first round.
After that, matchups will pair teams with the same record regardless of region, and rematches will be prohibited.
To qualify for the knockout stage, a team must win three matches, while three losses mean elimination from Worlds 2024.
The Swiss Stage format will feature best-of-one matches until the qualification and elimination series, which will be best of three.
Fans can catch all the Swiss Stage action on the official LoL Esports channels on Twitch and YouTube.
The final eight teams that survive this gruelling stage will advance to the knockout stage, bringing them one step closer to the Summoners Cup.
This victory broke G2s longstanding 0-9 losing streak against NaVi, a team led by Aleksi “?Aleksib?” Virolainen, and earned G2 their second trophy of the year.
G2’s lineup, featuring Janusz “?Snax?” Pogorzelski and Mario “?malbsMd?” Samayoa, finally came together to lift their first trophy with these players.
It marked an important moment for Snax, who hadnt won a major LAN event since ESL One New York in 2018, and for malbsMd, who became the first Guatemalan player ever to win a Counter-Strike trophy.

G2s victory comes after a successful year, which also saw them win IEM Dallas with Jake “?Stewie2K?” Yip standing in during an inspiring Cinderella run.
NaVi had held a dominant 9-0 record over G2 since going international in July 2023, including a group-stage victory over G2 in the Fall Final.
However, as G2s Nemanja “?huNter-?” Kova? famously said after lifting the trophy, Nobody beats G2 10 times in a row.
The grand final saw G2 perform at their peak, with standout performances across the board.
Ilya “?m0NESY?” Osipov was instrumental, delivering a 1.42 series rating and clutching six rounds across the first three maps.
In stark contrast, NaVis Ihor “?w0nderful?” Zhdanov struggled, ending with a 0.87 rating, a performance that hindered NaVi’s efforts.
The first map, Ancient, saw G2 take an early lead, with malbsMd delivering a crucial double knife kill and NiKo leading a strong offensive push to close the map 13-9.
NaVi bounced back on Dust2, but G2s resilience, particularly through m0NESY and malbsMds multi-kill performances, helped them secure another 13-11 victory.
Mirage was a turning point for NaVi, who capitalised on G2s mistakes to win 13-11.
However, G2 regrouped and dominated Inferno.
malbsMd, m0NESY, and huNter- led the charge, crushing NaVis defence and closing out the map 13-7, sealing their victory in the series.
m0NESYs brilliant showing throughout the tournament earned him his second MVP award of 2024, making a strong case for Player of the Year.
He ended the event with a +75 kill differential and a 1.39 rating in G2’s map wins.

Snax, whose form and leadership had been questioned, proved his doubters wrong by guiding G2 to a significant victory, while malbsMd’s performance highlighted him as one of the brightest new talents in the CS2 scene.
With this win, G2 now heads into the final stages of the year with momentum, raising expectations as they aim for the coveted Shanghai Major.
Their triumph in the BLAST Premier Fall Final marks them as serious contenders, with m0NESY and NiKo showcasing why they are one of the best duos in the game.
As NaVi reflects on a hard-fought run, fatigue from their deep tournament performances may be catching up to them.
Theyll need time to regroup before the upcoming IEM Rio 2024 and BLAST Premier World Final.
But for now, G2 celebrates a much-deserved victory that has been months in the making.

By eliminating the Bees, G2 Esports are guaranteed their fourth top-two finish in an S-Tier tournament just a week after reaching the semifinals at ESL Pro League Season 20.
The fixture marked the first clash between G2 Esports and Team Vitality since BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2024, when G2 Esports still fielded Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen and Nemanja “nexa” Isakovi?.
Now, with a new lineup and largely thanks to the newest member Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa, G2 got their revenge.
The BLAST Premier: Fall Final semifinal series kicked off on G2 Esports’ pick of Anubis, yet despite choosing the map, G2 failed to get over the finish line and lost 9-13.
That also marked Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov’s first map of a 29-map streak in which he failed to post a positive rating. Still, despite the slow start for the Russian AWPer, he managed to pick up the pace in the final two.
The series moved to Vitality’s map pick, Dust2, which started close, entering half-time with a narrow 7-5 lead for G2.
Vitality responded on CT-side, winning the first two rounds, but could not find a response for NiKo, m0NESY, and malbsMd, who carried their side to victory with seven straight rounds to close the map.
After a back-and-forth start, the series moved to the deciding map C Mirage, which continued the theme of the semifinal.
Team Vitality started strong, and on the back of Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, took three of the first four rounds but quickly lost momentum and entered the half-time 5-7 down.
Not to repeat the situation from Dust2, Vitality put their foot on the gas and secured seven of the first nine rounds on CT-side, setting themselves up for success.
But even after reaching a comfortable 12-9 lead Dan “apEX” Madesclaire and co. failed to close out the series.
Despite their best attempts, Vitality could not get the final map which would take them to the grand final.
They were unable to stop NiKo, who put on a masterful display and dragged his side into overtime, where a closely contested six maps ended in a well-deserved 16-14 victory for G2.
The Bosnian Counter-Strike superstar ended the series with a 1.47 performance rating, closely followed by malbsMd at 1.43.
G2 Esports are set to face Natus Vincere on Sunday, September 29. Counter-Strike betting sites have NiKo and co. priced as $2.54 underdogs for the BLAST Premier: Fall Final 2024 grand final.
This marks the return of the Ukrainian Counter-Strike superstar, who last appeared in a match in March when he stood in for the Falcons at BLAST Premier Spring Showdown 2024.
That was also s1mple’s first and only professional fixture on Counter-Strike 2.
Time to be back at LAN, thats was my goal from the very beginning – to play the Shanghai Major! Im very glad that we will have official games before we fix the mistakes and play the main tournament of this year! — Sasha (@s1mpleO) September 27, 2024
S1mple’s arrival comes amid a rough period for the Falcons, who have been struggling to make noise in the upper echelons of the Counter-Strike esports scene.
Their struggles, however, reached a new low earlier this month.
Since the turn of the year, Team Falcons’s most notable accomplishments were two semifinal appearances at Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2024 in February and BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024 #1 in May.
More recently, Danny “zonic” S?rensen’s men crashed out of ESL Pro League Season 20 in 21st-28th and BLAST Premier Fall Final 2024 in last place.
After the abysmal showing in Copenhagen, zonic talked about how the team needs to make some roster changes to find more stability.
And it did not take long for the changes to come into effect.
The 26-year-old replaces lvaro “SunPayus” Garca, who got benched from the starting five nine months after joining Team Falcons from ENCE.

SunPayus’s benching comes as a bit of a shock, as the Spanish AWPer had been the team’s highest-rated player, averaging a 1.13 performance rating during his stint.
Despite his strong showings, SunPayus later commented that the roster did not click and they agreed some change was needed.
We tried everything to make this work but it just didnt click as a team, it was really tough for everyone and a change was needed, wishing the best for my teammates. For me, will keep grinding and doing what I love to refind myself in the game, said SunPayus.
S1mple will debut for Team Falcons at Thunderpick World Championship 2024, which kicks off on October 21.
The tournament will feature 16 Counter-Strike teams, including BIG, Fnatic, and HEROIC, who, alongside Team Falcons, received direct invites.
Counter-Strike betting sites have yet to release outright markets for Thunderpick World Championship 2024; however, those will become available after the tournament organisers hand out the final six invitations for the event.
Team Falcons’ biggest challenge, however, will come in November, then s1mple and co. attend Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024: European RMRs, where they will vie for a spot at the second Counter-Strike 2 Major.
The match, significant for Falcons’ Danish in-game leaders and their veteran Counter-Strike trio of Emil “?Magisk?” Reif, Peter “?dupreeh?” Rasmussen, and coach Danny “?zonic?” S?rensen, had high stakes, as the winner would advance to play in front of the local Copenhagen crowd.

Falcons showed resilience on Nuke, recovering from a slow start on their terrorist side to force a final round.
Despite lvaro “?SunPayus?” Garca’s solid performance, Helvijs “?broky?” Saukants denied Falcons the chance for overtime, giving FaZe the map win.
The battle continued on Ancient, where Falcons again pushed FaZe to the limit, leading to overtime after a late FaZe surge.
Pavle “?Maden?” Bo?kovi?s heroics helped Falcons win in a triple-overtime thriller, forcing the decider on Dust2.
Dust2 saw both teams neck and neck, but Falcons faltered in the second half as FaZe dominated with a clean 7-0 run, powered by standout performances from H?vard “?rain?” Nygaard and broky, securing a 13-6 win and eliminating Falcons.
In a post-match interview, zonic acknowledged that the team needs changes, hinting at ongoing struggles and rumours of signing Nikola “?NiKo?” Kova? after the Shanghai Major.
FaZe’s win secured them a spot in the quarterfinals as the third seed, where they will face Team Liquid.

Meanwhile, Natus Vincere continued their impressive form, sweeping G2 Esports 2-0 to reach the semifinals.
G2, despite the loss, will face Team Spirit in the quarterfinals.
Natus Vinceres dominance over G2, extending their head-to-head record to 9-0, continued as Ihor “?w0nderful?” Zhdanov’s AWP play turned around an 8-1 deficit on Dust2 to secure a 12-1 run.
Ancient saw Natus Vincere’s well-coordinated terrorist side overwhelm G2, though some missteps on the defensive side allowed a brief G2 comeback before NaVi closed out the match 13-9.
Elsewhere, Team Spirit earned a quarterfinal spot after defeating Astralis 2-1, securing victories on Dust2 (13-5) and Mirage (13-11), while Astralis managed to win Ancient (13-3).

Spirits performance was far from flawless, with both teams showing signs of struggle.
Astralis, in particular, dealt with the controversy surrounding Casper “?cadiaN?” M?ller as an emergency substitute, which may have contributed to their disjointed play.
Team Vitality locked in a top-four finish by defeating Team Liquid 2-0 (16-12 Anubis, 13-11 Nuke) in Group Bs upper bracket final.

Despite not relying heavily on Mathieu “?ZywOo?” Herbaut, Vitality saw crucial contributions from Shahar “?flameZ?” Shushan and Lotan “?Spinx?” Giladi.
Liquid, captained by Russel “?Twistzz?” Van Dulken, showed promise but faltered when it mattered most, allowing Vitality to advance directly to the semifinals while Liquid heads to face FaZe in the quarterfinals.
The 26-year-old German Counter-Strike player has been inactive since being benched in July 2024 in favor of Nemanja “nexa” Isakovi?.
FaveN, who joined BLEED Esports as a founding member in December 2023, last played for the team during the CCT Season 2 European Series #5, where they finished in the fifth-eighth spot. Since then, he has not featured in any official matches.
FaveN enjoyed some initial success under the BLEED Esports banner, regularly posting positive ratings and helping the team secure a podium finish at RES European Series #1 in March. However, a dip in form in June led to his benching in favor of nexa, who was subsequently also benched in September.
In a, X post, faveN expressed his openness to joining a CIS team, highlighting his fluency in Russian, though he has yet to announce his future plans in the Counter-Strike scene.
FaveN’s departure leaves BLEED Esports two players short of a full roster. The Singapore-based esports team has been in a state of flux, benching three players this month alone. In-game leader Hampus “hampus” Poser left the team two weeks ago, while nexa was removed from the active roster on September 18. Most recently, Tim “nawwk” Jonasson was loaned to Fnatic, where he has already made his debut at the YaLLa Compass Summer 2024.
Currently, BLEED Esports are down to just three active players: Cai “CYPHER” Watson, Vladan “VLDN” Radevi?, and Joakim “jkaem” Myrbostad. Head coach Aleksandar “kassad” Trifunovi? now faces the challenge of rebuilding the lineup before BLEEDs next major competition, the RES Regional Champions, starting on October 16, 2024.
Later in the month, BLEED will also compete in the Thunderpick World Championship 2024, where they will vie for a share of the $850,000 prize pool and their first S-Tier title.
Regarded as one of the most spectacular players to watch, Topsons rise to fame began when OG scouted him ahead of The International 8 (TI8) in 2018.
At the time, Topson had little competitive experience and was not expected to make a significant impact, but he quickly proved doubters wrong by leading OG to victory without losing a single series in the main event.
The following year, Topson and OG made history by winning The International 9 (TI9) in 2019, becoming the first team to win back-to-back TIs without losing a single playoff series.

— TUNDRA (@TundraEsports) September 24, 2024
Topsons career, however, was not without its ups and downs.
After winning TI9, he took a break to focus on his family, returning to the competitive scene in 2022 as a stand-in for T1 and later committing to a full season with Tundra Esports in 2024.
Though his performances continued to meet fan expectations, he was unable to lift another trophy, including at TI13, where his dream of becoming the first three-time TI champion was dashed after Tundra was eliminated in third place by Gaimin Gladiators.
Throughout his eight-year career, Topson became known for his innovative playstyle, regularly choosing off-meta heroes and builds, which often set new trends within the Dota 2 community.
His bold and entertaining approach to the game won him legions of fans and cemented his place in Dota 2 history.
Despite stepping away from competition multiple times, Topsons retirement this time seems more permanent.
At 26, with two children and nearly USD$6 million in prize money earned, Topson is focusing on family life.
Additionally, Finlands mandatory military service may be another factor in his decision to retire, a path previously followed by fellow Finnish TI champion, Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen.
As Tundra Esports moves forward, it bids farewell to both Topson and Roman “RAMZES666” Kushnarev, who also announced his departure.
Despite these changes, the team is expected to compete in upcoming tournaments like PGL Wallachia Season 2 and potentially DreamLeague Season 24.
Topsons retirement marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy as one of Dota 2s greatest players.
While fans hope for his eventual return, his exit feels like a true farewell to the professional scene.
While not officially confirmed by either party, reliable sources, including Richard Lewis, confirmed that the 22-year-old has been playing with ENCE.
The news surfaced just days after Astralis signed Casper “cadiaN” M?ller as br0’s replacement, a week before the start of BLAST Premier Fall Final 2024 and after the roster lock deadline.
By the way, I don't usually bother with roster shit these days but given the circumstances, why not? I'm reliably informed that br0 is trialling with ENCE at the moment. So Astralis are saying he's too ill to compete but he's well enough to trial for people. What an org.
— Richard Lewis (@RLewisReports) September 24, 2024
The controversy arose from the fact that Astralis claimed br0 was unfit to play and were granted a roster change on the basis of a medical emergency from BLAST.
This was, however, disproved by br0’s agent, who stated that the Danish player is “fully fine” and fit to play.
Despite the protests from teams and players, BLAST doubled down on the decision, stating that they had been given no reason to question Astralis’ statement.
The story has now reached a new depth after it was revealed that br0 is trialling with ENCE, confirming his agent’s statement that the 22-year-old can play.
ENCE have not officially confirmed they are trialling br0, however, ENCE co-founded Joona “natu” Lepp?nen stated that they have been testing multiple players over the last week in search of a replacement for Goofy.
Despite the ongoing controversy, Astralis were allowed to showcase their new lineup for the opening series of BLAST Premier Fall Final 2024 against Team Vitality.
It marked cadiaN’s first official fixture since May 30, when he lost to G2 Esports in the Group A lower-bracket final of Intel Extreme Masters Dallas 2024 while playing with Team Liquid.
Unfortunately, his debut did not end as planned.

CadiaN will have a chance to bounce back on Thursday when Astralis clash with Team Spirit in a Group B elimination match.
