The third day of the 2024 League of Legends World Championship Swiss Stage was marked by high-stakes matches between some of the best teams in the world.

With two quarter-finals spots up for grabs, four League of Legends teams—Dplus KIA, LNG Esports, Gen.G Esports, and Hanwha Life Esports—battled it out to secure a place in the knockout stage.

The first match of the day was a classic LCK vs LPL showdown between Dplus KIA and LNG Esports.

LNG, led by the exceptional play of mid-laner Lee “Scout” Ye-chan, has been one of the most dominant teams at Worlds 2024.

Coming off a victory over Bilibili Gaming, LNG continued their hot streak by taking down Dplus KIA in a convincing 2-0 series.

The first game lasted 36 minutes, with LNG asserting dominance from start to finish.

In the second game, Dplus KIA put up more resistance, but LNG once again came out on top, thanks in part to DK’s unconventional drafts that failed to yield results.

With this win, LNG became the first team to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.

In the second match, Gen.G Esports faced Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) in a highly anticipated rematch of the LCK 2024 Summer Playoffs grand final.

Hanwha had bested Gen.G in that series to claim the championship, and this clash was an opportunity for Gen.G to exact revenge.

The series did not disappoint, going the full distance in a best-of-three.

HLE took Game 1 on the back of strong teamfight engages from their support, Yoo “Delight” Hwan-joong.

However, Gen.G bounced back in Game 2 with a superior draft and map control, forcing a decisive Game 3.

In the final match, Gen.G once again showed superior movement across the map and secured the win, thanks to dominant performance from their mid-laner, Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, who propelled his squad into the knockout stage with a 2-1 victory.

With their wins, LNG Esports and Gen.G became the first two teams to advance to the knockout stage of the World Championship.

The competition now moves to the 1-1 matches on Sunday, where teams like Fnatic, Top Esports and T1 will fight to stay in the tournament.
